"The barricade at Rue de Villette has fallen." A young boy said, bringing the terrible news that yet another part of the revolution had been overtaken. Narumi, dressed as a male in case someone asked her to leave since she was a woman, felt a wave of hopelessness; could we ever do any better. "Reinforce the barricade!" She shouted, determined to go down fighting like the great Enjolras. She checked that where she was about to stand was stable and climbed to the top of the barricade. There were no Frence officers. They were safe to make sure everything was fine for now, but she knew that wouldn't last. "Check that the guns are all loaded and ready." She continued ordering. There was no way they could do this, but they could give themselves the best chance.

"Narumi!" Akuma shouted over the men's voices, her steps stepping closer to her dear friend. Her own hair was bunched up in a large cap, letting random strays of silver hair droop down in a boyish fashion and shadowed her brilliant blue eyes. Wearing a poet shirt under a dark red vest, in honour of the great Enjolras, and black slacks, you would have never guessed she was there to fight and win this war. Each part of her heart believed in them surviving and winning this ordeal, but she would not be afraid to die for the love of her country. "What is the news?" Akuma paused in front of her friend, face monotone as she looked into the details of her friends face, something has happened.

"Enjolras is--" The last word was lost in her throat, but she was a revolutionary. There was no room for weakness here. "The barricade at Rue de Villette has fallen." She declared loudly, forcing herself not to let her voice crack. This was, in her oppinion, the most depressing thing. The bravest, the most inspiring of all of the revolution had been killed. This leader of leaders was valued more to her than her own life. "Our best shots, take your positions. Everyone else, get ready to care for the wounded and to reload the guns." She was ready to fight. This news had made her angry and ready to kill the ruthless killers, a supreme hypocracy that she could not help. Akuma and Narumi had hung onto Enjolras's every word, unlike these unserious idiots who seemed not to fight for any reason. Just as General LaMarque's death had fueled Enjolras, Enjolras's was fueling Narumi.

Like a wave crashing on the sand, the anger and sadness fell over Akuma in a way nothing has before. She took a quick glance down to the red vest that she not only wore to support Enjolras, but the very vest he gave her the first time she had proved her worth. Letting each movement of her body take control, a rifle was soon grasped in her sweating hands, ready to fire at every b***** that has taken their beloved leader away in some way or form. Enjolras's voice rang through her mind like bells of revolution, his voice was that of an angel from heaven, a true leader and friend. Akuma felt the salty liquid leak from her face and trail down her cheek. No doubt her only true love has now gone, and Narumi and her are the only ones that could keep his tradition moving on in the way he wanted. They will win this war, despite the challanges; Enjolras's dreams will not end in vain. Thinking of his face smiling down from the clouds above almost made her break down on the barricade they were inspired to build at this very spot not only but a few blocks from Rue de Villette. Shaking off each thought, her eyes returned from haze to reality: French Officers advancing to shake their barricade down and only the commoners with fire in their blood to keep these barricades up to prove to the high and mighty that they are not just the little people. "LET US DIE FACING OUR FOES! MAKE THEM BLEED WHILE WE CAN! MAKE THEM PAY THROUGH THE NOSE! MAKE 'EM PAY FOR EVERY MAN! LET OTHERS RISE, TO TAKE OUR PLACE. UNTIL THE EARTH IS FREE!" words rang off her tongue into the air, a feeling that they were Enjolras's final breaths of air, she would believe it, every breath that man took was for France and the people of France. Her eye focused on the officers, a shivering finger on the trigger, waiting for the whites of their eyes to come in focus before ammunition was to be wasted.

Narumi was shaking. Not from fear, but from anger. She was beginning to feel numb by then. She jumped as one of their own fell, though she was unsure if they were dead or not. However, she was fairly unshaken; the French officers had terrible aim. "RED!" She screamed, to a roaring chorus of, "THE BLOOD OF ANGRY MEN!" "BLACK!" "THE DARK OF AGES PAST!", "RED!" "A WORLD ABOUT TO DAWN!", "BLACK!" "THE NIGHT THAT ENDS AT LAST!" She fired at a soldier, who crumpled immediately; the students and other revolutionaries were much more careful about who they let handle their small amount of ammunition. Enjolras had been a much better person than she had, in her opinion. She did not, as Enjolras would, feel any remorse for taking another's life, or any sympathy. All she knew is that the only way the officers could truely help France was by surrendering or dying. That was all there was to it. She cried out in pain, her voice clearly a woman's in the pitch, as her right arm was nicked by a bullet. "Akuma, how are we doing on remaining people and ammo?" She demanded over the roar of battlecries and gunshsots.

Akuma turned her head to Narumi, making sure her head was blocked by some strong force so no bullet would reach into her skull. "We are running short, the people of France have not arrived and our homemade production of bullets is slow, not to be mean, but we also have only a few barrels of gunpowder left." She had quickly ran off the list, her eyes diverting between Narumi and the objects mentioned; but they ended up towards the sky, it was only high noon. They probably wouldn't be able to have enough materials to last them to nightfall. "Narumi, we should hold back fire until necessary. The officers don't look like they are advancing and they are wasting ammo on bad aim."

"Pass it along to the others." Narumi ordered, though she and Akuma were the joint leaders of this barricade, "And don't let the officers catch on." She began spreading te message to everyone in reach, telling them to hold fire and to stay covered. Narumi was very thankful that Akuma was still standing; apart from being close friends, she was very observational, while Narumi was good at organising everyone. Narumi clapped Akuma on the shoulder as a sign of her gratefulness and ducked behind the barricade. She gritted her teeth so as to hold back her growing fears. One cannon blast and they were all dead, like Enjolras. If she was to fight for her country and for freedom, she was to not fear for their lives or fret over lost ones. Just continue fighting for the greater good, to save the generations to come. Our little lives don't count at all. As he once said. She ripped off the bottom of her shirt to bind her arm, which was bleeding more than she thought it was before. But she wouldn't, she refused to go as for any medical help; others were hurt worse and she might be needed. Se held herself in readiness for when the officers started towards them.

Akuma nodded in agreement and smiled reassuringly, they were a great team. Together, they were almost the same as Enjolras, but he was still better. She gave whispers to each of the ears of their troops, and gave a quick look inside the medical center to make sure things were going well in there. Supplies like solution and bandages were still good ammount; but it was not enough to reasure her. They were prepared to be revived, but they weren't prepared enough to attack back. Akuma went to her position and peeked over the barricade, hoping that she was hidden enough to not have any bullets aim for her skull. Her eyes caught the dead bodies of French Officers, and many ammunition in the bags on their belts and guns still grasped in their cold hands, "If only I can go out and grab those..." Akuma wisped through clenched teeth, her form melting back behind the barricade and her attention went to Narumi, "Naru, I thi-" the word was quickly cut short when the glimpse of dark red was on the sleeve of her poet shirt, a bad sign, "What happened?"

"Nothing." Narumi said quickly, though the loss of blood was making her slightly dizzy, "And you aren't going after the ammunition." They had gotten the individual stories of some of the fighters at the Rue de Villette barricade, and one of them was off little Gavroche, who was shot and killed collecting bullets from the other side of the barricade. After thinking for a moment, she looked accross the barricade at the officers, aiming her gun, but she was shaking too much to hope to get a decent shot in; the wound was either clearly worse than she thought or she was terrible at tying turnicates. She carefully climbed down their side of the barricade to someone who could help her. Only one other person was being treated, so she trod over to a medical volunteer, clutching at her throbbing and bleeding arm.

Akuma picked her up, "Rest, Narumi. You are no weaker than Enjolras!" Akuma smiled brightly, trying to keep a cheer in the air when her face snapped up, "We need a medical doctor!" she rang loud and clear to the woman at the makeshift hospital. A lady with long red hair approached and bowed, letting Akuma carry Narumi into the safe keep of the tavern they borrowed for the barricade .

"Akuma, no, i-it's just m-my arm!" Narumi stuttered, fighting to fight. No matter what Akuma said, she was weaker than Enjolras if she stopped fighting. The girl who was mending people up began cleaning the wound and wrapping it. She couldn't afford to leave the others out in broad daylight. Why couldn't she have been shot before nightfall? "AH!" She cried out in pain as the sting of rubbing alcohol reached her arm, "AkuMA, go keep CONTROL of the situation!" She yelled some parts of the words more than others when the small hole in her arm stung more all of a sudden. She clenched her teeth together to stop herself from shouting anymore and to hold back the tears that were fighting to get free of her eyes as much as she was to get back on the barricade.

"I'm on it already," Akuma tipped her hat before sprinting out the door, directions and orders already spilling from her mouth and splashing around the air in volumes louder than gunshots. But she was smart in what she said, keeping things in code and not let secrets be flowing over the barricade to the officer's ears. She locked a gun shot towards an advancing officer when she came to the tower of the barricade, and the simple bullet went through his heart. Akuma then noticed that he was no older than her, forced to do this out of pure government. Words of Enjolras ran inside her veins, words of not being afraid to shoot when it has to be done. Wiping her tears off on her dirty shirt, splashed with mud and other things found on the ground, she continued her work. Hoping Narumi would be back shortly.

As soon as she was patched up, Narumi jumped to her feet, immediately making the room whirl around her. The medicine girl told her to sit back down and rest, but how could she when people weren't free? Narumi walked gingerly to the door of the tavern, intent on at least watching what was going on. An hour passed of endless gunshots from the officers and the very occasional return shot of the revolutionaries. The sun did not seem to budge from it's place in the sky, as if it didn't approve of the revolution and refused to give it a break by leaving it's post. "Akuma! How are we on supplies now?" A few more people had been non-fatally shot, though they had lost one of their number to the officers simply from blood-loss .

"Not so good!" Akuma returned answer once a moment of stillness passed on the other side of the barricade. Pieces of the huddled wood that stood as their only protection was beginning to fall from all the careless gunshots of the officers. No doubt that a simple cannon, let alone a bullet, would make it fall. Students who were swift left to find wood that would be useful in stabelizing the sign of hope for the revolutionaries. If the barricade fell, no doubt the students would give up. They were all young and did not fully understand the importance of this all. Blue eyes challenged the sun, how it just stood there in mocking. Sweat was pouring from her body, but she couldn't simply just run to the shope they stood at and grab a quick sip. Every second on the barricade counted to the last second, even if she was going to collapse from dehydration. "Just hold on, a little longer," she snapped at her body and shook her head when she saw the edges of her sight get black.

Narumi saw Akuma's struggle to stay standing. "Those of you who have been fighting, switch with someone else. Get something to drink. Now!" she barked, "That includes you Akuma!" She grabbed a gun from one of the students to take up their position. Akuma was right; they were low on supplies. No doubt Narumi would charge the officers with a gun to beat them before giving up, but the situation looked bleak. A boy ran up the barricade to take up a post. He was one of the other more serious students, though not nearly as serious as Akuma or Narumi, and definately not Enjolras. His name was Alain and he had short sandy hair that was soaked with sweat, like everyone else. Luckily, Narumi had not noticed this, for, despite her efforts to be like Enjolras and focus entirely on revolution, she developed something for him, though the very emminent life threat should have diverted this always and she knew he was not permitted to know that she was female. Besides, the people of France needed freeing while she was thinking of unimportant triffles such as "love". Time trickled by, wet sand in an hour glass, frustratingly slowly. Everyone's bodies ached and begged to cease moving. How in the world wouldthey do this another day, and then another...if the barricade stood that long. If only Enjolras's and their barricade had combined efforts, Narumi thought ruefully, then they might have stood longer. The sun dilgently sat in it's spot just barely away from the center.
